The Group Text Is Not a Calendar
July 21, 2026
Somewhere between 'sounds fun!' and 'wait, which Saturday?' every playdate plan goes to die.
Exhibit A, a real group text: 'We should do a playdate soon!' ... 'Yes!!' ... 'How's Saturday?' ... 'This Saturday or next?' ... [three days of silence] ... 'Sorry just seeing this!' The playdate is dead. It was never alive.
The problem isn't enthusiasm, it's infrastructure. A group chat is a conversation, not a plan. Plans need a date, a time, a place, and a yes — and group chats are where those four things go to get separated.
The fix is embarrassingly simple: whoever suggests the playdate picks a specific date and time. 'Saturday at 10, our place, park after?' gets answers. 'Sometime soon?' gets emojis.
And once someone says yes, it goes on the calendar immediately — yours and theirs. A playdate that isn't on a calendar is a wish. Put wishes on calendars.
